Environmental, Health, Safety and Workforce Development (EHS/WD) Committee

ABC’s EHS/WD Committee is dedicated to promoting and advocating for safe, healthy workplaces where every individual returns home safely to their loved ones. The committee supports our members in being responsible stewards of the environment, promotes careers in construction while enhancing the industry’s image and delivers rigorous, relevant educational programs that help members win work and execute projects safely, efficiently and within budget. The EHS/WD Committee also works to foster and maintain meaningful relationships with industry and educational partners. Aims include:
- Develop and deliver micro safety briefings at all general membership meetings.
- Lead efforts to achieve 30% STEP participation among ABC Maine members.
- Meet at least twice per year, with additional meetings scheduled at the discretion of the committee chair, to support the needs of the ABC Board of Directors.
- Conduct meetings either in person or virtually.
- Keep the board informed on all EHS/WD related issues, initiatives and progress.
Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee
Chair: Glenn Adams, Sargent Corporation
ABC’s Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee is responsible for evaluating proposed legislation and agency regulations to determine their potential impact on members and the construction industry. The committee works to educate members about new laws and regulations to ensure ABC members are consistently in compliance. Members of the Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee serve as ABC’s voice at the legislature, ensuring ABC is recognized as the leading resource on construction workplace issues.
The committee stays busy during the legislative session, so members interested in serving on it should have flexible schedules that allow time for its duties. In addition to evaluating legislative proposals, committee members discuss the latest industry trends and issues, develop strategies for legislative initiatives and establish issue priorities for the chapter.
Committee members may be asked to meet with members of Maine’s legislature and congressional delegation to educate them on ABC’s concerns and to testify before legislative committees on issues of particular importance.
The committee meets weekly during the legislative session. Other meetings may be scheduled as the committee chair deems it appropriate to meet the needs of the membership.
Membership Committee
Chair: Nate Boutin, Graybar Electric Company
The Membership Committee provides insight and recommendations on timely industry issues for presentations at ABC’s membership meetings and events.
It helps execute the chapter’s annual program to promote the merit shop philosophy, build the chapter’s visibility, provide business opportunities for its members and attract new members to the association. The Membership Committee aims to:
- Brainstorm innovative ideas and concepts for meetings and events.
- Develop plans to recruit new members and execute the chapter’s annual retention and recruitment goals outlined in the chapter’s Strategic Plan.
- Assist the ABC team in retaining new members and developing programs for new member involvement and satisfaction.
- Ensure every member company benefits from their membership in ABC.
- Assist the ABC team with planning, promoting and implementing monthly membership events.
- Establish a volunteer plan to cover all membership events.
- Meet four times throughout the year, or as needed.
