Happy 250th anniversary, America!
What a privilege to represent Maine and the Northeast. I am honored to work alongside a group of like-minded Americans who build — quite literally — the foundations of our communities, our economy and our future.
As we celebrate this milestone in our nation’s history, we are reminded that this country began as an idea. In the 1770s, long before steel framed our skylines or cranes dotted our cities, a different kind of construction was underway.
In places like Boston — where the footsteps of revolutionaries still echo along cobblestone streets — ordinary people were laying the groundwork for something extraordinary. They believed that freedom, opportunity and individual merit could shape a society unlike any the world had seen.
The Revolutionary War was not just a military struggle; it was a declaration of values. It was a message to all that people should have the right to chart their own course, work hard, compete fairly, and succeed on their talent and determination. Our country’s patriots did not wait for permission. They rallied, they collaborated, and they took bold action to build a nation rooted in liberty and personal responsibility.
Just as the early builders of this nation believed in creating opportunities for all, so too does ABC. We champion a workforce where health and safety, skill and integrity define success.
As our country celebrates its 250th anniversary, it’s impossible not to feel the weight and wonder of that legacy. A quarter millennium of progress, innovation and determination, much of which was built by the hands of construction professionals whose spirit lives on in every job site today.
As contractors, we honor our heritage by building our state, investing in people, taking pride in our craftsmanship and upholding the belief that when individuals are empowered to reach their full potential, entire communities rise with them.
We are part of a long American tradition. From the forts along our coastline to the job sites we lead today, builders have always shaped the destiny of this country. The values that guided our founders — freedom, merit and the courage to create — continue to guide us today.
Consider the responsibility we share, 250 years after our founders put their lives on the line for a future they could only imagine. One filled with possibilities, the pursuit of happiness, freedom and the right to choose. It is our responsibility to protect what our forebearers fought for.
Freedom comes at the cost of sacrifice. To those of you who have contributed to PAC or FEA, thank you. I encourage those who have not to contribute what they can. Every dollar counts and will make a difference in securing the values and philosophies we hold so dear.
Lastly, I encourage each one of you to join the Health and Safety Alliance within ABC. You will have access to a world-class health and safety program based on best practices from ABC member companies across the country.
In addition, you have access to their Total Human Health program. Our employees are the heart of our businesses. We have a moral responsibility to ensure their well-being. This program provides the tools to enhance the great work you are already doing to protect those talented professionals who are building America.
